WCH 2018 W: Three teams secure berth for the 2018 World Champs from Asia, one more place is vacant

Three teams have secured their berth in the 2018 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship from the Asian Qualifiers, so far: China, Thailand, and South Korea.

By beating Australia in straight sets (25-15, 25-6, 25-20) in the Asian Qualification Tournament, China collected 9 points and a 3-1 record to grab one of the two spots for the World Champs from Pool A in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Yuan Xinyue was the best scorer in the Chinese National Team with 14 points, while the captain Zhu Ting added 13 points.

Pushed by Yekaterina Zhdanova, who scored 23 points, Kazakhstan outplayed Chinese Taipei 3-1 in the same pool. Exactly these two teams will fight for the last remained spot in the World Championship in the last round, today: Chinese Taipei play China, while Kazakhstan face Fiji. Both sides have 6 points and 2-1.

Pool B hosts Thailand beat North Korea 3-0 with 16 points from Chatchu-on Moksri, while South Korea defeated Vietnam by a 3-0 as well thanks to 12 points from Kim Yeon-Koung. Both winners of today’s matches in Nakhon Pathom have advanced to the World Champs by collecting 9 points and 3-0.
