In another three sets, we saw a completely different face of the World Champions, who simply smashed the rival 3-1 (29-31, 25-18, 25-15, 25-22).
The opposite of Sada Cruzeiro, Evandro Guerra, was the top scorer of the game with 16 points, while Leal was named MVP by the website of the Brazilian Volleyball Federation, receiving VivaVolei trophy.
“I’m very happy for the first win. It was a very difficult game, they played very well. However, we won this game thanks to our serving performance. Our team had some changes and we are working on the teamwork. William is great, but Urirarte will reach the shape throughout the season. No doubt he is a great setter,” says Leal.
On the other side, the legendary libero Serginho has commented the result of the game:
“I want to congratulate Sada Cruzeiro, for making an excellent start. I must say – I am not satisfied. We could get a tie-break and we have to show more. We can’t miss as many attacks as today. We could even get a win if we had been more effective on the court. We didn’t do it and we paid a very expensive price,” explains Serginho.
The first round has brought a derby game! Sesc RJ have met Funvic Taubate and home side needed four sets to defeat the rival 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19).
The opposite Paulo Victor Silva marked the game with 25 points.
“We knew it would not be easy, especially when you face an excellent team such as Taubate. We didn’t have too much time to practice together after the arrival of the national team players, so today win was a win based on some experience of the players,” says the opposite.
SESI SP have also won the game against Maringa 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-13) to show that they will be among the favorites for the championship trophy.
