A trend of the tie-breaks in Pool C in the 2017 CEV Women’s Volleyball European Championship has continued. Russia emerged as the biggest winner from this situation.

In a direct duel for the spot No.1 in the pool that secures a berth in the quarterfinals, played in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Russian National Team survived a thriller against Bulgaria 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 15-13) to claim leadership, sending today’s rivals to the Playoffs (1/8 Finals).

Mostly thanks to amazing blocking display (23 kill blocks) in which Irina Zaryazhko-Koroleva stood out with 8 kill blocks (18 points in total, 2nd best scorer in her team), Russia downed a tough National Team of Bulgaria. Tatyana Kosheleva notched 23 points for the winning side. Elitsa Vasileva, well acquainted with the quality of the rivals as she has spent last two seasons in Dinamo Kazan, made 25 points for Bulgaria.

This was the fourth tie-breaker in five games in Pool C so far. This number could be even larger since Turkey and Ukraine will close the competition in the pool (18:30 CET) with the match whose winners will advance to the Playoffs.
