The favorites in today’s 1st leg games of the 2018 CEV Men’s Volleyball Cup quarterfinals scored convincing wins, stepping into the semifinals already with one foot.

Belogorie Belgorod from Russia (Maksim Zhigalov 12 points – 3 aces, 3 kill blocks) imposed domination against Slovenian titleholders ACH Volley Ljubljana at home, 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-13).

The Polish powerhouse Asseco Resovia Rzeszów (Frenchman Thibault Rossard 14 points) did the same to French side GFC Ajaccio VB (José Luis González 14 points), partially 25-22, 30-28, 25-19.

Calzedonia Verona from Italy got away from Montpellier Volley UC. The French representatives will have a lot to regret after this match as they lost by a 3-1, dropping a three-point lead in the first and the second set (8-5) which they ultimately lost. The American Thomas Jaeschke scored 18 points for Verona. The Slovenian Alen Pajenk added 5 kill blocks. Jean Patry delivered 27 points for Montpellier.
