The story of Bulgarian Ivaylo Stefanov, who seemed to be the oldest active Men’s professional volleyball player at the moment, attracted a lot of attention of our readers. Thanks to them, we have learned that there is a guy who topped Stefanov on this rather interesting list.

Miguel Maia, a 46-year-old Portuguese setter, is actually the oldest Men’s professional volleyball player in the world, for now! This means that Ivaylo Stefanov falls to No.2.

He competes with Sporting Clube de Portugal Lisboa, five-time champions of Portugal. And although Sporting won their last national title 23 years ago, Maia was involved in it. Actually, he was involved in three of these five Divisão A1 gold medals (1992, 1993, 1994). Other two came in the mid-‘50s.

Now, as a captain, Maia will lead Sporting to the first season in the Portuguese top division in 22 years since the volleyball section, that is under control of the sports club Sporting CP was shut down in 1995.

RUS W: Goncharova – “I feel more confident because coach Terzic makes me feel that way”

Re: @Vadim
Vakifbank risks with their service and is still considered the strongest club in the world. Alekno made the biggest risk of them all by putting Muserskiy to opposite and Mikhailov to outside attacker in the London Olympics while still considered the best in their original positions...So how is that risk is bad? Players need to master and overcome the risk to not call it anymore as risk. Reply

You have to be ready, well prepared and trained, or you have to play risky? No sense. You are super star. Every time you have to be ready. Not to have any kind of risk. Risk is 50-50. Reply
