CS Arcada Galați did what no other team in the 2017/18 Romanian men’s volleyball championship Divizia A1 could do in the last four months – to beat CSA Steaua București!

Since October 13, 2017, Divizia A1 leaders CSA Steaua București were untouchable for all the other teams in the tournament, making a 17-game winning streak. But, in Round 20, they bumped into motivated CS Arcada Galați, third-placed in the standings, and lost at home by a 3-1 (25-14, 14-25, 25-19, 26-24)

Marian Iulian Bala from the winning side scored game-high 17 points. Even the absence of the best server of Divizia A1 at the moment, Alexandru George Zahar, did not disturb the play of Arcada as Bala showed he was also skillful when it comes to this segment by serving 5 aces.  Andrei Spînu added 5 kill blocks. The Serbian Nemanja Čubrilo tallied 13 points for Steaua.

I hope that the Superliga will include the challenge system in next season. I feel that almost every Superliga match I watch has at least one controversial call, especially with ball in/out. Reply

Will coach Marcelo Mendes stay on for next season? If Leal and Simon leave, Cruzeiro will be a shell of their former team. Evandro, Filipe, and Sérgio are both in their late 30s now. Reply
