World League 2017

WL 2017: Estonia winners of Group 3

At their first ever participation at FIVB World League, Estonia became the winners of Group 3 after straight-sets triumph over Spain at the decisive match (25-22, 25-16, 25-21).

  

With five stuff blocks and a total of 14 points, Ardo Kreek was the brightest of a group of stars that showed Estonia the way to the first place while opposite Oliver Venno fired three aces and completed a full score of 12 points. 

As for Spain, Andres J. Villena Rodriguez completed 13 spikes, leading the charts of a team that just couldn’t handle the high offensive force of their rival.

Captain Kert Toobal said after the match: “Our teamwork was the key. We played a clever game, using our heads and keeping the ball in play.” And he completed: “This is a big day for Estonian volleyball.

The winners of Group 3 final will advance to Group 2 for the next year’s edition of the FIVB World League.

 In the match for the third place Germany defeated the host  Mexico 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 26-24). Simon Hirsch was the top scorer of the match with 16 points

More innovations in 2017: FIVB testing new rules regarding serve and back-row attack!

Beat of 7 to 15 and 8 subs per set is means half the team never sees the net and half only serves once per set. Going backwards in specializing the positions. I like the idea of subbing witthout stopping the game and no technical timeouts. Reply

This tournament will be such a waste of time if that new format will be introduced, eliminating the rewards for the teams that worked hard for it like Belgium and Slovenia. Reply
