This year Rwanda took part in the Friendship Games for the first time, confirming the growing regional importance of this event which is highly festive and symbolic.

“The success of the 3rd Friendship Games shows that we have succeeded in working together, motivated by the common values of friendship and fraternity that sport conveys,” Joel Bouzou, president and founder of Peace & Sport said. “The event continues to grow. We have introduced 10 new sports disciplines and we now have the great pleasure of welcoming Rwanda among us.

“Beyond the Games, we have developed an extensive peace-building program that uses sport to encourage national unity in the Great Lakes region. Initiatives of this type will enable us to make a real difference to the lives of those most in need, through sport and youth centres.”

Peace and Sport” puts sport and its values at the heart of local development projects conducted within communities in crisis around the world. Exercising its missions in post-conflict zones, areas of extreme poverty or lacking social cohesion, Peace and Sport makes sport a vehicle for tolerance, respect, sharing and citizenship at the service of sustainable peace.
