ONICO Warszawa remained not only without Bartosz Kurek for the 2018/19 Polish Men’s Volleyball Championship playoffs but also without another important player – Bartosz Kwolek.

Bartosz Kurek underwent a microsurgical operation of the lumbar spine. The treatment went without any complications but recovery will take about three months which means that the participation of the opposite hitter at the FIVB Volleyball Intercontinental Olympic Qualification Tournament for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in August is doubtful.

ONICO requested Plus Liga to allow them to make a medical transfer as they agreed to terms with Maciej Muzaj from Trefl Gdańsk who was supposed to replace Kurek. But, the Polish League rejected the request from ONICO, explaining that Kurek did not play enough matches as a starter to be replaced via medical transfer. He played 13 of the club’s 24 matches as a starter and does not fulfill conditions for the request that ONICO made.

Nevertheless, since Bartosz Kwolek sprained his right ankle in the same match as Kurek, which is Game 1 of the Plus Liga 2018/2019 playoff semifinals against Jastrzębski Węgiel, and is unable to continue playing, ONICO got permission from the Polish League to register Muzaj for the rest of the playoffs insted of him!
