The 16-year wait is over for the Kenya Women’s Volleyball National Team – they will play the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games as the first side to earn a ticket to the event via Junary’s continental qualifications.

After 16 years and the 2004 Athens Olympics, the Kenya Women’s Volleyball National Team will play at the most important planetary event.

The “Malkia Strikers“ recorded a routine win over Nigeria in the last round of the African Qualifier in Yaoundé, Cameroon (3-0: 25-15, 25-21, 25-12) to celebrate the progression to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games with a cocktail of emotions and by holding their head coach Paul Bitok above their heads at the end of the encounter. Sharon Chepchumba Kiprono top-scored for Kenya with 11 points today. Albertina Francis scored 10 for Nigeria.

The moment Kenya saw off hosts Cameroon, it was clear they will secure a place in the event in the Japanese capital. With the win over Nigeria, Kenya finished the round-robin tournament with 11 points, one ahead of Cameroon who played their last match in the Qualifier, yesterday.

2020 African Women’s Volleyball Olympic Qualifier – Round 5

Nigeria – Kenya 0-3 (15-25, 21-25, 12-25)

Egypt – Botswana, 19:00 CET
