The reigning Brazilian Men’s Volleyball champions Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei have qualified for the Superliga playoff semifinals.

The second seed Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei fixed a bad first impression from the opening game of the Superliga Cimed 2018-2019 playoff quarterfinals against Copel Telecom Maringá Vôlei (3-2) and this time prevailed over No.7 side without losing a single set: 25-19, 25-21, 25-17. Thus, the Contagem based team advanced to the semifinals by sweeping their rivals. Just like in Game 1, there was a tension on the court due to some controversial referee’s decisions, even after watching video checks, to which Maringá players complained. Cruzeiro middle blocker Isac Santos top-scored for his team with 15 points (four kill blocks, 85% excellent attack). American Taylor Sander was brilliant in reception with 92%. There were no players with double digits in Maringá, Hugo Silva made nine points.

The top seed SESI-SP will also play semifinals as they eliminated No.8 Vôlei UM Itapetininga. The team São Paulo beat their rivals in four sets in Game 2 to win the series 2-0.

Superliga Cimed 2018-2019 playoff quarterfinals:

(8) Vôlei UM Itapetininga – (1) SESI-SP 1-3 (24-26, 28-30, 25-22, 17-25), series 0-2

(7) Copel Telecom Maringá Vôlei – (1) Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei 0-3 (19-25, 21-25, 17-25), series 0-2

March 29:

(3) EMS Taubaté Funvic - (6) Vôlei Renata (23:00 CET),series 1-1

No.4 SESC-RJ qualified for the semifinals earlier by winning series against No.5 Fiat/Minas 2-0

ITA M: Trentino secure signature of 3-time consecutive SuperLega top scorer Abdel-Aziz!

One of the best opposite hitters in the world right now. Trentino will have a hell of the power when it comes to finish the ball but will definetely struggle to receive it. Both Lucarelli and Kooy are easy targets to aim and were usually hidden behind a libero. Still seems like there will be top 3 clubs in Italy next season: Lube, Perugia, Trentino. Modena will be weaker for sure and will struggle to be in the top 6 and Piacenza may make a surprise. Reply

ITA M: Trentino sign newly proclaimed Italy National Team member Kooy

Dick Kooy is a really solid player who has been very consistent in his pro career. Gaining him and Rossini are very very good Italian additions. That being said the loss of Grebennikov, Russell and Kovacevic will be significant.
Ultimately I will cheer for a healthy uninterrupted A1 season....fans or no fans....We need to play volleyball!!! Reply
