Itambé/Minas beat Sesc RJ Flamengo in the big match of Round 20 of the 2020/21 Brazilian Women’s Volleyball Championship and secured 1st place for the playoffs.

Minas swept Sesc by a 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-23) on the road in Round 20 of the 2020/21 Brazilian Women’s Superliga Banco do Brasil regular season and earned the top seed towards the playoffs. With 14th victory in a row, the Belo Horizonte team reached a 10-point advantage (and 3 wins more) in relation to the closest followers in the charts, Osasco São Cristóvão Saúde, having to play 2 more matches to the end of the regular season.

Thaísa Daher, the middle blocker of the winning team, was the top scorer of the match with 15 points. American Megan Hodge made 77 % reception (22 digs, 32 % excellent). Ana Cristina Souza ‘Aninha’ collected 12 points for Sesc, while Colombian libero Camila Gómez had 78 % reception (23 digs; 43 % excellent).

In another big match of the round, Sesi Vôlei Bauru beat Dentil/Praia Clube by a 3-2. This was a thrilling encounter that had position no.3 at stake and which lasted for as many as 2 hours and 41 minutes. Azerbaijani Polina Rahimova shone for Bauru with 34 points, while Mara Leão had 4 blocks. Dominican Brayelin Martínez stood out on the losing side with 26 points. Ana Carolina Silva ‘Carol’ set up 4 blocks.

Such an outcome left Praia in 3rd position but now with no advantage in wins in relation to Bauru (both at 14-5). However, Praia have 4 points more than Bauru (44-40). Both teams even have a chance (even though slim) of claiming no.2 for the playoffs.

ITA M: Perugia focused on bringing Grbić

He signed a 2-years contract with Zaksa last year. He won Polish Cup with them, not sure what happened so Zaksa lost the championship. They kicked out Lube and Zenit from the Champions League and have a good chance of becoming European champion although Trentino didn't win anything this year so this is their last chance.
He started his coaching career with Perugia so everything is possible... Reply

USA M: Russell undergoes surgery in US, will miss Tokyo Olympics

Russell had one of the best sports surgeons in the world work on him so I expect he will be in great hands. While devastating for any athlete Russell is young enough to have both Paris and Los Angeles in his Olympic future at very high level.
Piacenza is building something very special there and Russell is a perfect type of player and professional to attract others to come there and build around.
Wishing him a full and speedy recovery. Reply
