CL W: Five quarterfinal spots have been booked, Imoco in a difficult situation

Vakifbank, Eczacibasi, Novara, Scandicci and Fenerbahce are five teams that already claimed spots for the quarterfinals of the CEV Champions League.


Three Turkish teams and Novara have qualified for the next round even after 4 rounds, while Scandicci have confirmed it in the fifth round.

Dinamo Moscow have scored an important victory in Turkey. The girls from Moscow, led by Nataliya Goncharova (25 points), took the revenge on Fenerbahce, a team that beat them in the first round of the CEV Champions League.

Maritza Plovdiv have written the history as they scored the first ever win the CEV Champions League group stage.

Imoco Volley Conegliano got into a difficult situation after suffering a defeat against Scandicci. They now need a 3-1 or a 3-0 win if they want to keep the chances for the quarterfinals.

Maritza Plovdiv – Beziers 3-1 (25-15, 19-25, 25-15, 25-16)

WC 2019 W: Brazil beat weakened team of Serbia in thriller, China win Asian derby

Because the VNL consists of teams that have been invited by the FIVB, rather than have truly qualified for it based on competitive criteria. These teams (e.g. Belgium & Slovenia with the men) would unjustifiedly lose a lot of points on the ranking because they didn't pay the FIVB enough to participate. on the other hand weak teams like South Korea would see their ranking go up just purely by participating.

In its current format the VNL is nothing but a worthless demonstration tournament of friendly games... :-(
