Maritza Plovdiv achieved historical victory in the CEV Women’s Volleyball Champions League, which was also their first victory in the competition this season.

The Bulgarian team Maritza Plovdiv achieved the first-ever away victory in the pool stage of the Champions League and it came against no one else, but the most titled team in Europe - Dinamo Moscow from Russia. The squad coached by Ivan Petkov overcame the famous Russian powerhouse, the national champions, by a  3-1 (25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 25-17). With this success, the Bulgarian titleholders kept their chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals, having to win the remaining 2 games in Pool E to achieve this goal. Maritza are still in the last, 4th place, in the standings with one win, 3 losses and 4 points. Aleksandra Milanova top-scored for Maritza with 18 points, while Hristina Vuchkova (ex-Ruseva) made 5 kill blocks. Dariya Stolyarova scored 19 points for Dinamo.

The reigning champions Igor Gorgonzola Novara redeemed for the sensational defeat on German soil and, with superb performance, crashed Allianz MTV Stuttgart to take the lead in Pool C (3-0). In the same pool, Polish titleholders ŁKS Commercecon Łódź broke tough resistance of Khimik Yuzhny from Ukraine in 4 sets to tie with Italian side Novara at 8 points and 3-1 record.

As expected, Turkish giants VakıfBank Istanbul had no problems against fresh Slovenian Cup winners Nova KBM Branik Maribor (3-0), not allowing rivals to take more than 15 points in any of the sets.

FIVB releases new men’s and women’s world rankings

ITA M: Trentino secure signature of 3-time consecutive SuperLega top scorer Abdel-Aziz!

One of the best opposite hitters in the world right now. Trentino will have a hell of the power when it comes to finish the ball but will definetely struggle to receive it. Both Lucarelli and Kooy are easy targets to aim and were usually hidden behind a libero. Still seems like there will be top 3 clubs in Italy next season: Lube, Perugia, Trentino. Modena will be weaker for sure and will struggle to be in the top 6 and Piacenza may make a surprise. Reply
