Turkey’s Halkbank Ankara joined two other teams that have found their places in the semifinals of the third tier European club tournament for this season. As hosts (Ankara got the organization of two eighth-final and quarterfinal tournaments apiece), Halkbank downed France’s AS Cannes VB in the quarterfinals by a 3-1 (25-18, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19). Thus, the Turkish powerhouse eliminated big rivals for the trophy and will face Italy’s Allianz Powervolley Milano (earned progression a week ago) in the ’final before the final’ in the semis.

Cuban Fernando Hernández was the most deserving player for Halkban’s triumph today with 21 points. Faik Samed Güneş and Austrian Alexander Berger set up 4 blocks each. Volkan Döne had 74 % reception (43 % excellent). In Cannes, Australian Lincoln Williams tallied 23 points.

A week ago, the Czech’s VK Lvi Praha also secured a place in the semis. The winners of Omonia Nicosia (Cyprus) vs Ziraat Bankası SK Ankara (Turkey) will face Estonia’s Pärnu VK for the remaining quarterfinal berth.
