The packed stands at Palace of Culture and Sports (6,500 spectators) pushed Bulgaria to an ecstatic play in the first two sets of the FIVB International Qualifier against Brazil.

The reigning Olympic Games champions were pinned to the ground in the third set as well – Bulgaria had a match point after Brazil squandered two set points of their own. The “Seleção” survived it and reduced the gap in sets at 2-1 but only after five more set points. This set lasted for 46 minutes!

After this, the players coached by Renan Dal Zotto took full control of the match, making a run of 5-1 at 2-4 in the tie-break to secure a spot in the Olympics and send Bulgaria to highly competitive European Qualifier in January next year.

Yoandy Leal topped Brazil’s scorers with 22 points, Wallace Souza served 4 aces. Tsvetan Sokolov noted 19 points for the hosts, Svetoslav Gotsev made 4 kill blocks.
