Brazil and Poland played clinically against their rivals on Day 8 of the 2019 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup in Japan ahead of a title decider in two days.

Led by the middle blocker Isaac Santos, who top-scored with 13 points through 100% attack (10/10!) in a straight-set win against Tunisia in Hiroshima, Brazil kept their unbeaten run of eight games (no defeat). Brazil’s head coach Renan rested to Bruninho, Leal, Lucarelli, Lucão and Mauricio Souza but the play of the Olympic champions did not suffer: 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-13).

Brazil’s nearest followers in the charts Poland (7-1) were even more brutal against much stronger rivals than Tunisia. The team coached by Vital Heynen recorded a clear win against Australia, leaving rivals in single digits in the third set: 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-9). The Belgian expert did not put that many players aside as Renan. Heynen gave a day off to León but sent Kubiak and Kurek on the court from the start of the match. The latter was Poland's top scorer with 13 points.

The USA fought off a scare from their NORCECA rivals Canada: 3-2 (21-25, 25-11, 20-25, 25-19, 15-13) to stay in third place in the standings (6-2). “Wounds” which John Speraw’s guys sustained a day before against Brazil when they lost the title battle were visible today but the USA emerged victorious thanks to Matthew Anderson’s 20 points and Mitchell Stahl’s 6 kill blocks. On the other side, Nicholas Hoag tallied 18 points but the one who impressed was Daniel Jansen Vandoorn. He set up as much as 9 kill blocks!

Japan prevailed over Egypt in a thrilling encounter (3-2: 25-14, 18-25, 25-23, 28-30, 15-13) to keep the position No.4 (6-2) on the table and medal chances alive. Yuki Ishikawa shined for the winning side with 24 points. Yuji Nishida served 5 aces.

CWCH 2019 M: Bruninho refuses to receive MVP award and hands it to Leal (VIDEO)!

If the process is obviously corrupted then it should be bypassed - FiVB should be objective, in this case they were not. Leal's deserving of the award IS the point, otherwise what is? And I doubt anyone would call FIVB shenanigans a 'process' LOL. They were clearly wrong and deserved to be called out for it. Why should Leal suffer the prejudice. Reply

Whether Leal deserved MVP award or not that is a different discussion. Don't take me wrong, he is a great player. But I am not sure how Bruno got the idea that he has the right to bypass the FIVB process and voting committee and give award he was given to someone else. This is a scandal and he should be punished for this behavior. Reply

Perhaps what will most be remembered is how Leal was snubbed of an award he rightly deserved. That was shameful. No idea why the prejudice against such a deserving player. Lube would not have w on this without Leal. Reply
