Poland and the USA joined Brazil as medal winners at the 2019 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World League in Japan.

Brazil secured the gold medal in the penultimate round yesterday and played Italy only for the sake of prestige. However, the “Seleção“ did not want to spoil their perfect record and beat the rivals in straights sets for the 11th win: 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-15). Isac Sants led Brazil, who was represented by backups today, with 14 points (5 aces).

Poland recorded one of the easiest wins against fierce rivals Iran in recent years and claimed the silver medal: 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-16). Although matches between these two sides often contain provocations and tension, this time everything went well. Surprisingly, Poland’s head coach Heynen decided not to appear at the medal award ceremony in Hiroshima, trying to arrive in Italy as soon as possible in order to be officially presented as head coach Sir Safety Conad Perugia. Wilfredo León top-scored for Poland with 17 points (4 kill blocks).

Led by Matthew Anderson, who tallied 17 points and Mitchell Stahl, who served 6 aces, the USA beat Egypt by a 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-13) and reached the bronze medal. The North American side could have won the silver medal as well, but Poland’s win, later on, took that chance away from them.

Standings

As for the individual awards, Brazil’s opposite hitter Alan Souza was named Most Valuable Player.

Best Outside Hitters: Wilfredo León (Poland), Yuki Ishikawa (Japan)

CWCH 2019 M: Bruninho refuses to receive MVP award and hands it to Leal (VIDEO)!

If the process is obviously corrupted then it should be bypassed - FiVB should be objective, in this case they were not. Leal's deserving of the award IS the point, otherwise what is? And I doubt anyone would call FIVB shenanigans a 'process' LOL. They were clearly wrong and deserved to be called out for it. Why should Leal suffer the prejudice. Reply

Whether Leal deserved MVP award or not that is a different discussion. Don't take me wrong, he is a great player. But I am not sure how Bruno got the idea that he has the right to bypass the FIVB process and voting committee and give award he was given to someone else. This is a scandal and he should be punished for this behavior. Reply

Perhaps what will most be remembered is how Leal was snubbed of an award he rightly deserved. That was shameful. No idea why the prejudice against such a deserving player. Lube would not have w on this without Leal. Reply
