Turkey have suffered the first defeat so far in Volleyball Nations League, losing to Dominican Republic. Russia managed to beat Thailand in four sets.

Russia claimed a four-set victory 3-1 (25-14, 18-25, 25-14, 25-20) against Thailand at the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Nations League on Monday.

Young Russian Arina Fedorovtseva was the top scorer of the game with 20 points. Pleumjit Thinkaow scored 19 for the Thai team.

It was a bit difficult to play against Thailand. They have a very well-organized defense and sometimes we were not able to kill the spike. But we managed to improve our game and get a win, so we are very satisfied. In the second set we lost our concentration, but then in the third we proved our strength. I am absolutely sure that tomorrow's match will be very difficult, but we will be well-prepared,” says Polina Matveeva, the Russian player.

The Dominican Republic rebounded from the previous day's loss to Belgium to stun previously undefeated Turkey in four sets.

Yonkaira Pena was the top scorer of the game with 20 points, while Tugba Senoglu had 13 in the jersey of the Turkish national team.

"I feel very happy and I'm very proud of my team. We really fought today. We were sad after yesterday's defeat, but we knew that if we won today we would get our confidence back. Our teamwork was a key to this victory, teamwork is key to win in every match. We have very good players, but when we play together and we play as happy as we are then our victory is almost a sure thing," says Niverka Marte (Dominican Republic).

GRE W: Suspended Korean player Lee Da-Yeong going to play in Greece

Excited to see Dayeong venture out to an overseas league to grow as a player! Since the Greece league is weaker than the Korean league, it'll be an opportunity to see if she can step up to the plate to lead her team as a setter, while also showing herself to other leagues for future seasons.

The twins were indefinitely suspended after the accusations made towards them about what they did back during elementary school, but they're currently in the midst of a court investigation process to prove that most of the accusations made against them were false (they acknowledged some of them and had apologized immediately & publicly for those).
Once that is resolved - hopefully soon, she should have no issues going abroad.

Heard rumours that PAOK is also looking for a foreign OH, and is looking at signing her twin sister Jaeyeong together with her as a package.
I sure hope that is true and will come to pass as well! Will be additionally fun seeing them play together, and they can rely on one another in a new foreign environment. Reply

VNL W: Preliminary stage over - China put end to USA’s invincibility, 6 players say farewell to Thailand National Team

Bless the Thai players. They share much blood, sweat and tears, many tears. They were robbed of an Olympic birth from an incompetent ref that will haunt them for the rest of their life. Reply
