Nantes (No.4 seed) managed to do what the regular season winners Mulhouse couldn’t – to eliminate league’s newcomers Marcq-en-Barœul (No.8) from the 2018/19 Ligue A Féminine playoffs. After prevailing in the tie-break in Game 1 on the road, Nantes scored a straight-set win at home (25-18, 25-14, 25-22) in the second match to close the semifinal series with a 2-0.

Lucille Gicquel (4 kill blocks) and American Annika Albrecht, the professional volleyball rookie, scored 15 points apiece for Nantes who advanced to the finals for the second time in the club history (lost to Cannes in 2014) and secured a place in the next edition of the CEV Champions League. The Serbian libero Tatjana Burmazović made 73% positive reception (15 digs, 13% excellent).

Nantes’ opponents in the gold medal matchup are yet to be determined as Cannes (No.2) tied the semifinal series with Le Cannet (No.3) at 1-1 by winning at home in four sets. Serbian Adela Helić top-scored for Cannes with 22 points, while Christina Bauer made 71% attack (15/21).

2018/19 Ligue A Féminine playoff semifinals – Game 2:

(4) Nantes – (8) Marcq-en-Barœul 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-22), series 2-0

(2) Cannes – (3) Le Cannet 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20), series 1-1
