The reigning champions Cannes and runners-up Nantes were victorious as the opening of the 2019/20 regular season in the French Women’s Volleyball Championship.

Cannes and Nantes, the two finalists of the last season’s play-off, successfully set off the 2019/20 Ligue A regular season campaign, with the latter recording a more comfortable win. Led by an experienced Ukrainian outside hitter, the newcomer from CSM București, Romania, Nadiia Kodola (18 points), the reigning champions got scared by Pays d'Aix Venelles only in the third set: 3-1 (25-13, 25-17, 21-25, 25-15). The Lithuanian Monika Šalkutė (Paris Saint-Cloud last season) scored 13 for the losing side but through only a 27% attack (13/49).

Nantes were dominant against the newly-promoted side of Terville Florange: 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-21). The prospect American outside hitter Lindsey Vander Weide, who is playing her first professional season upon arriving from Oregon University, was Nantes’ top scorer with 17 points. The teenager Amandha Sylves, who came to Nantes from France Avenir 2024, served 4 aces while Serbian libero Tatjana Burmazović had 90% reception (10 figs). The young Portuguese opposite hitter Júlia Kavalenka (last season in Bosca San Bernardo Cuneo, Italy) scored 11 points for the losing side.

Saint-Raphaël was the only team to celebrate the away win in the first round. They were expeditious in the country’s capital against Paris Saint-Cloud: 3-0 (28-26, 25-19, 25-20). The Croatian international Laura Miloš, who came from the Belgian side of Modal Charleroi Volley, poured in 17 points for Saint-Raphaël, while Lara Davidović set up 5 kill blocks against the team for which she competed last season. As for Paris, Serbian outside hitter Jelena Oluić (2018/19 Železničar Lajkovac, Serbia), noted 11 points. Belgian outside hitter Els Vandesteene made 72% reception (18 digs, 22% excellent).

The American outside hitter Malina Terrell marked the opening day of the 2019/20 Ligue A Féminine regular season when it comes to scoring. She tallied 25 points in the 3-1 win of Béziers against Le Cannet, who are playing their second successive season in France after leaving Switzerland in which they competed under the name of Volero Zürich.

First things first, I know you will delete this coment, because this is a critic to WOV.. Sada doesn’t win big a long time... They lost Supercopa to Taubaté like they were juvenile team. Then they win first two games against low level teams and you write they are “ready to regain Superliga title”???? What kind of joke writer are you??? Reply

RUS W: Busato says he’ll call Kosheleva for national team preparations for Tokyo Olympics

The Russian team needs her, badly. She used to be one of the top attackers in the league. Even Zhu Ting paid her a huge compliment saying she contacts the ball at such heights thus making it hard to block her. Reply
