Several days after the Women’s tryout, the Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) has organized a tryout for the male players for the 2019/20 V League season.

Just like the Women’s tryout, the Men’s will also be held at the Goldring Centre for High Performance in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and will last from May 7-10.

By looking at the list of participants, it is noticeable that there are several returnees to Korean volleyball. Three names stand out the most in the list – Canadian Gavin Schmitt (Olympiacos S.F.P, Greece), Cuban Michael Sánchez Bozhulev (Vôlei UM Itapetininga, Brazil) and Belgian Bram van den Dries (Rennes, France), ranked exactly in that order.

Schmitt left an indelible mark on the V League while playing in Daejeon Samsung Fire Bluefangs from 2009 to 2012. He scored a total of 3,061 points during that time, winning the championship title in all of these three seasons.

Sánchez Bozhulev also spent three seasons in the V League, from 2013 to 2016 defending the colors of Incheon Korean Air Jumbos, finishing his debut season as Best Server.

As for Van den Dries, he played one season in the Korean top division, the 2017/18, being a member of Ansan OK Savings Bank Rush&Cash.

KOVO informed that only 19 of 30 players who applied for the tryout will actually take part in it. Some players have canceled their participation while some were prevented to arrive for reasons such as national team schedule, injury, personal reasons, and visa issues.
