OFFICIAL: Slobodan Kovac takes over Serbia!

735 0

We know the name of Nikola Grbic's successor.

As we have already written, it's Slobodan Kovac, the Serbian volleyball legend.

Everything happened very fast. A few days ago, I didn’t receive any call from the Serbian Volleyball Federation. Knowing that a few volleyball legends from Sydney received a call to watch the tournament in Bari, but not me, this contract offer has surprised me. You can’t deny an invitation from Serbia. I didn’t even think about it. It’s a huge honor to lead the Serbian NT,” says Kovac for sportklub.rs.

The Serbian expert has been gathering experience both at the natinal team and clubs' level and he is definitely ready for this experience. As a head coach, he was at helm of Iran and Slovenia, while at the clubs' level he coached Radnicki, Perugia, Halkbank and Belogorie.

In an interview for WorldofVolley, he has also said that he probably won't stay in Belogorie for the next season which means that he is completely available at the moment.

Recall that Serbia parted ways with Nikola Grbic.

WC 2019 W: Brazil beat weakened team of Serbia in thriller, China win Asian derby

Because the VNL consists of teams that have been invited by the FIVB, rather than have truly qualified for it based on competitive criteria. These teams (e.g. Belgium & Slovenia with the men) would unjustifiedly lose a lot of points on the ranking because they didn't pay the FIVB enough to participate. on the other hand weak teams like South Korea would see their ranking go up just purely by participating.

In its current format the VNL is nothing but a worthless demonstration tournament of friendly games... :-(

The results of the VNLs don't give the participating national teams any points for the FIVB rankings. Does anybody or WorldofVolley has any idea, why? Reply
