The Week 1 of the 2021 US Women’s Pro Volleyball League came to its end.

Team Sybeldon and Team King achieved wins on Day 3 of the 2021 Women’s Athletes Unlimited Volleyball by which Week 1 of the competition that attracted a lot of attention from the volleyball world came to an end.

In the first two matches of the league, Team Sybeldon (Purple) was led to wins by Jordan Larson. It was only a matter of time when some other player on the team captained by Lianna Sybeldon will shine apart from the legendary outside hitter given it is packed with the US National Team members. Karsta Lowe and Lauren Gibbemeyer stood side by side with Larson, who also did not miss the chance to be active in all statistical parameters, in the victory over Team Clark (Blue).

Team Sybeldon prevailed both in sets and in the overall score. Partially, it was 25-18, 14-25, and 25-18, while overall it was 64-61. Lowe had 16 kills, 4 digs, and 2 blocks. She was named MVP 1 and collected 332 total points. Larson had 12 kills, 3 assists, 1 ace, 8 digs, won the MVP 2 award, and a total of 312 points. As for Team Clark, the rookie Leah Edmond stood out with 9 kills, 3 aces, 8 digs, and 1 block. That was enough for the MVP 3 award and 22 cumulative points.

The innovative scoring system, both for team’s and player’s points, implemented by the organizer of the league and for which even the most insightful sports betting tips couldn’t fully predict how will impact the outcomes of matches, showed its true face in the encounter between Team King (Orange) and Team Cruz (Gold). The latter was better in sets (2-1: 25-22, 15-25, 29-27) but lost the overall match by 74-69 on cumulative points. It was the first case in the competition that a team who won two out of three sets lost the overall match.

Sherridan Atkinson’s performance for Team King was the most outstanding in the match as she earned the MVP 1 honor, which brought her an additional 60 points to her 104 stat points, for a total of 264 points overall. She finished the match with 11 kills, 4 digs, and 2 blocks. Her teammate Bethania de la Cruz didn’t repeat yesterday’s display but was on a high level. Dominican international earned 79 stat points (12 kills, 1 assist, 1 ace, 6 digs, and 1 block) and took MVP 2 award for additional 40 points, putting her at 219 points overall. The MVP 3 award went in the hands of Mallory McCage from Team Cruz, as she tallied 202 total points.

Now, individual performances of the last day of Week 1 were crucial for player’s positioning in the leaderboard, which reflected in taking over captaincy for Week 2. With a total of 1,021 points for the week, Larson earned the no.1 captain position for the Week 2 Draft and will get herself Team Larson (Gold) for which she will elect the roster, just like all the other captains will. Lowe secured her position in the second captain spot with a total of 875 points and will compose Team Lowe (Orange). Rookie Edmond was rewarded for her outstanding professional debut with the third captain’s spot (756 overall points) and Team Edmond (Blue). De la Cruz put 750 overall points on her account, which granted her the final captain’s spot for Team De la Cruz (Purple).

2021 US Women’s Athletes Unlimited Volleyball, Week 1 – Day 2:

Team Cruz – Team King 69-74

Team Clark – Team Sybeldon 61-64

ITA M: Perugia focused on bringing Grbić

He signed a 2-years contract with Zaksa last year. He won Polish Cup with them, not sure what happened so Zaksa lost the championship. They kicked out Lube and Zenit from the Champions League and have a good chance of becoming European champion although Trentino didn't win anything this year so this is their last chance.
He started his coaching career with Perugia so everything is possible... Reply

USA M: Russell undergoes surgery in US, will miss Tokyo Olympics

Russell had one of the best sports surgeons in the world work on him so I expect he will be in great hands. While devastating for any athlete Russell is young enough to have both Paris and Los Angeles in his Olympic future at very high level.
Piacenza is building something very special there and Russell is a perfect type of player and professional to attract others to come there and build around.
Wishing him a full and speedy recovery. Reply
