The Italian male volleyball coach Piero Molducci died at the age of 65 from cancer that had kept him off the bench since the end of 2019.

Molducci lost the battle with cancer that hit him two years ago and gradually weakened his physical health. A 65-year-old Italian expert spent his last days in native Cervia, where he was carrying out treatment against the disease.

After commanding several clubs in his home country – some in the second division, some in top-flight (Consar Ravenna and Top Volley Cisterna among others) – Molducci made a step which was a turning point in his career. He took over the bench of Spain’s Unicaja Costa de Almería in 2004 and won the championship title already in the first season as a head coach there.

After a return to Italy, he left a huge mark in Querzoli S.Volley Forlì, promoting them from the third division to SuperLega during the course of 5 years. Then, Molducci started his second term at the helm of Almería, which lasted from 2011 to 2018 and during which he helped the club won 8 trophies.

After only one season as a head coach of UD Ibiza Ushuaïa Volley, Molducci was forced to leave the post for health reasons – in December 2019.
