Cristóbal Marte, the Director of all Dominican female national teams and President of NORCECA Volleyball Confederation (region of North America, Central America and the Caribbean) proposed a new system that allows greater participation of more countries according to the FIVB rankings.

Specifying example of a system of classification for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where the best runners-up in this region had more complicated way than those who were third-placed, Marte gave idea how to distribute tickets for 12 teams for the next Olympics.

The host country Japan, the next world champions, the World Cup winners and five continental champions would have direct spot. The remaining 4 spots would be distributed at a tournament composed of 16 teams with the best FIVB ranking.

These 16 teams would be located in four pools (A, B, C and D) consisted of four teams formed by same order as at the FIVB ranking list. The winners of each pool would qualify to the Olympics and that’s how the list of 12 teams that will participate at the Olympics would be completed.
