Jastrzębski Węgiel eliminated reigning champions PGE Skra Bełchatów from the 2018/19 Polish Men’s Volleyball Championship playoffs!

The third seed Jastrzębski completely changed the course to Plus Liga 2018/2019 playoffs by eliminating reigning champions, and also No.6, Skra.

The poor regular season campaign cost the Bełchatów team to be seeded very low in the quarterfinal draw and, accordingly, to jeopardize their title defense ambitions. Jastrzębski did not miss the opportunity to take advantage of this and kick Skra out of the playoffs for the first time in the history of their matchups in the knockout stage of the Polish Championship. Beating Skra in the last five mutual encounters, including Game 1 of the playoff quarterfinals three days ago (3-2), was definitely a good sign for the side based in Jastrzębie-Zdrój. Game 2 on the road ended into their favor, in straight sets, partially 25-20, 25-15, 25-21.

Dawid Konarski top-scored for Jastrzębski with 13 points while Grzegorz Kosok and German Lukas Kampa made four kill blocks each. Dawid Gunia served four aces. As for Skra, Iranian Milad Ebadipour scored 15 points.

Plus Liga 2018/2019 quarterfinals bracket:

(6) PGE Skra Bełchatów - (3) Jastrzębski Węgiel 0-3 (20-25, 15-25, 21-25), 0-2 series

(5) Cerrad Czarni Radom - (4) Aluron Virtu Warta Zawiercie (G2 on March 31), 0-1 series

(1) ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle and (2) ONICO Warszawa secured automatic berths for the semifinals /ONICO will play Jastrzębski/.

RUS W: Despite renewing with Dinamo Moscow, Ognjenović will join VakıfBank

Wow! Ognjenović had some heated clashes with the Vakifbank coach on court while she was playing for EcZ. I have seen in one video that she was screaming at him. Ognjenović is fiery and the captain of the National Serbia team and is considered one of the best setters (and smart) in the world. I like this move. The current setter for Vakifbank makes bad decisions(and poor sets) at bad times that caused them. Reply
