In less than a month, Zenit St. Petersburg went the path from fighting for the top spot to fighting for the no.4 for the playoffs of the 2020/21 Russian Men’s Superliga Parimatch. In Round 23, they lost against Fakel by a 3-2 (14-25, 25-20, 25-23, 18-25, 15-9). The team coached by Tuomas Sammelvuo managed to keep 4th place in the charts but now with just 1 point ahead of today’s rivals. It was the 4th defeat of Zenit St. Petersburg in the last 5 matches in the competition. Maksim Zhigalov top-scored the Novy Urengoy side with 19 points.
Achieving straight-set wins each, Dinamo Moscow and Zenit-Kazan (8th win in a row overall, 5th win in a row in Superliga) kept their statuses of leaders and vice-leaders in the charts, respectively.
