Brazil defeated Mexico, but not in straight sets as everyone expected. The Mexican crew shocked the crowd in Maracanazinho by taking the opening set in this match, however the visiting side did not have enough strength to do something more.
Brazil quickly regained the control over the game and seized the following 3 sets.
Wallace de Souza was leading the winning side with 18 points, while Ricardo Lucarelli scored 17.
