Turkey lost their first match in the 2018 CEV Men’s Volleyball Golden European League but it left no consequences on the side coached by Nedim Özbey as one point from the match against The Netherlands launched them to the Final Four in Karlovy Vary (June 13-14).
The Dutch side needed a three-point win to seek for a berth in the final tournament in the last round. They failed to seize it despite playing at home in Sliedrecht and having a 2-1 lead in sets. Partially, it was 24-26, 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 15-9 for Pool B leaders Turkey.
Metin Toy was the best scorer in the winning side with 19 points. Nimir Abdel-Aziz delivered 26 points (4 aces). Fabian Plak contributed with 8 kill blocks while Gijs Jorna recorded 80% reception (20 digs, 1 error, 35% excellent).
Sweden noted their first win in the tournament by surpassing Slovakia at home in Nyköping in Pool A but lost their chances to fight for the Final Four ticket earlier.
Fredrik Gustavsson scored 20 points for the Scandinavian side. Peter Mlynarčík scored 17 points for Slovakia.
