“This is a bad day for the men’s volleyball in Dresden,” said on a press conference Managing Director of the club Jan Pretscheck and added that he had to file for Dresden’s bankruptcy on Thursday. On the advice of his lawyer, Pretscheck did not comment on the background of the bankruptcy.
German news portal SZ-Online revealed what caused the bad situation in Dresden. It has to do with the lack of sponsorship. Salaries for players, coaches and managers may be paid this month but no longer. Reason is the withdrawal of the major sponsor Cloud & Heat and other four sponsors, too.
Dresden has arrived to play the match against SWD Powervolleys Düren on Saturday, but with only six players. Nevertheless, they could play with that squad, but one of the players was injured!
Düren won the match without a fight – 3-0. The fans had a refund for the paid tickets and Düren completed a training session with a match six against six.
