Two teams from Germany and Austria made a historical agreement, which has never been seen before in both Men’s and Women’s volleyball!

Unterhaching & Tirol

The 2016/2017 Austrian Men’s champions Hypo Tirol Volleyballteam Innsbruck and German TSV Unterhaching merged into Hypo Tirol AlpenVolleys which will take part in German top division, Bundesliga, next season! This kind on multinational fusion is the first-ever example of a kind in volleyball.

Interestingly, new club will be based and play most of its matches in 2017/2018 in German city of Unterhaching, but will host few encounters in Innsbruck, Austria, as well. The idea of merging these two clubs appeared three years ago but both were waiting for a three-time CEV Champions League participants TSV Unterhaching to get wild card for Bundesliga, which occurred in April.

TSV Unterhaching and Hypo Tirol Volleyballteam will have a mutual senior team but separate youth teams.

Recall that ex-Hypo Tirol Volleyballteam already had some sort of collaboration with German clubs, allowing one of them to compete in the playoffs in their gymnasium last season.

Newly formed Hypo Tirol AlpenVolleys already signed their first newcomer for 2017/2018.
