Katja Stam and Raisa Schoon claim Elite-level gold with a commanding victory at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour event in Rio de Janeiro.
Stam & Schoon defeated Brazil’s Carol Solberg and Rebecca Cavalcanti 21-16, 21-16 in final, completing the tournament without losing a set.
Stam and Schoon won all seven of their matches in straight sets, including a 21-18, 21-13 semifinal victory over France’s Clemence Vieira and Aline Chamereau.
Carol and Rebecca, backed by the home crowd, reached the final with a perfect record of their own. They defeated Americans Kelly Cheng and Megan Kraft 25-23, 21-16 in the semifinals before falling short in the title match.
Cheng and Kraft recovered to claim bronze, sweeping Vieira and Chamereau 21-13, 21-9.
