Turkish Airlines Sports Club Secretary General Ramazan Yıldırım evaluated the team's current status and goals in an interview with WorldOfVolley.

THY started the season with a trophy. How important is this for a team before official competitions begin?

“We are happy that we have successfully completed one of the goals we set for this season. Winning the Balkan Cup is really important for us, as it is the first European Cup of our club. Besides, this trophy not only strengthened our confidence and motivation in the team but also is an important step for us to go to the Challenge Cup.”

What are your expectations for next season in Turkish league?

“As we have already mentioned, we want to complete Vestel Venus Sultans League this year in the top four teams.”

Have you completed all your goals in terms of transfers this summer?

Everyone in our staff, including the athletes and technical squad, were the people we wanted to work with. We selected the entire staff following our goals and club character. In addition to the performance of each person on the court, we give great importance to characters such as being constructive, unifying, ambitious, hardworking individuals who prioritize the team, not their ideals.“

You will play in the Challenge Cup - what are your goals for this competition?

„Competing in the CEV Challenge Cup is not enough for us, we want to win the Cup. Our team consists of a blend of promising athletes and experienced athletes who have achieved great success at National Teams. We believe that this squad will achieve their goals both in Sultans League and in the Challenge Cup.“

What can we expect from Turkish Airlines in the coming seasons?

„Turkish Airlines, Turkey's flag carrier airline, and is the most valuable brand. As a team operating under the umbrella of a brand representing our country all over the world, our goals will always be high. The ever-increasing momentum we have shown so far is the proof of our words. Turkish Airlines Sports Club aims to achieve great success and raise role-model athletes for national teams. In this case, what is expected from us is to make an effort for our country and the Turkish Airlines family.“

By Mark Lebedew: The Best Player You Might Have Heard Of...but have probably forgotten

Older video, records and analyses, editing, research by Mark Lebedew are very interesting. I take his work as priceless.. No one else do such a work...He provides us with many volleyball jewels, observations.. In past we often could not see many top tournaments, or matches on TV ….There was no Internet, no YT. Only very limited TV ... We often did not know the background, problems on some tournaments - see e.g. what happened during Italy vs Netherlands OG 1992, on M.L. YT channel, and how it had influenced a final with Brazil..
In time of pandemic, we can take a lesson from some former activities on courts . In past there was a much more decent behaviour during matches, avoiding useless personal contacts , no so and such intimacy as nowadays, no expressive shouting as is a current rule after killing spike or blocks, ourts... Only at the end of the match, tournaments emotions were same as now... (Now we see on 75 and more the useless, risky, ritual teamś hugging per a match) .. Moreover until 1998, volleyball was for TV fans very friendly - due to of a perfect visible. recognizable white ball. Since this time, the screen fans eyes suffer - volleyball has become a pantomime on screens.
Moreover the game was much more smoothly - no so many and so long interruptions as nowadays.. Majority of referees had a respect..
I suppose, if volleyball wants to survive this pandemic crisis, it will have to return to some above mentioned procedures.. Systematically...
