A legendary volleyball player Vlado Nikolov has raised his voice against the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation.

According to Nikolov, who is currently a president of Levski’s men’s team, the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation is not doing the right things and the changes are needed.

So, we have decided to call Vlado Nikolov and ask him what is happening these days in Bulgaria.

The clubs in Bulgaria demand the dismissal of the Bulgarian Federation president Dancho Lazarov. Why?

The things in the Bulgarian Federation are not going in the right direction, especially after the World championship. Simply, the situation is not good. We think that our Volleyball Federation is not helping volleyball in Bulgaria at all. The Federation is not helping our men’s and women’s club which are the base of the pyramid. There is a lot of room for improvement. We have never got an answer to our demands. In the recent period, we tried to get some reports regarding the financial state, however, we didn’t get anything. We don’t know what they are doing with the money since many people that are working in the Volleyball Federation never get their salaries."

How do you plan to make the changes?

All of us have the same goal. We want to make improvements in the Bulgarian volleyball and that’s also a goal of the men’s and women’s clubs in Bulgaria. I think he will never resign but I believe that we will make these changes at the democratic elections. After these democratic elections, I hope we will have a new president.”

What would be the further steps if Lazarov leaves?

Of course, firstly we will have the elections and then there will be new plans. Whoever comes instead of him, there will be a lot of work to do. We all together need to improve the situation in the Bulgarian volleyball.”

Is it easier to be a player or the president of one team?

“Well, I can say that it’s ten times easier to be a player,” says Vlado Nikolov for WorldofVolley.

We will be reporting about the situation in the Bulgarian volleyball so follow us to stay up to date with the fresh information.

POL M: Young Australian coach Reynolds will command Jastrzębski next season

All this because volleyball is not e real professional sport and many clubs are managed with people with (almost) zero experience and knowledge in volleyball. And they manage money from state companies or government directly. Do not expect that that people will think differently. That is why volleyball will never move to another level and will always have some small “make up” in the future Reply

Many Strength and Conditioning Coaches/Scoutman are trying to get into coaching. Due to their lack of experience and knowledge, at first, they take a major pay cut in comparison to actual volleyball coaches. Currently, coaching jobs are paying very little, even in the top leagues, and some of the experienced coaches are not taking jobs for 25.000-40.000 EUR, knowing that demands are just as high as before when they were making double of this salary. Unfortunately, club leaderships see coaches as a disposable matter and therefore keep dropping salaries because there are candidates that will take these jobs. I am not here to judge, just to describe some of the dynamics around this profession. Reply

Interesting trend, that some coaches who specialised on physical training, some who never played volleyball on top level, became pretty successful volleyball coaches. It can be observed in some menś and women teams. It reflects a situation that volleyball has become a very physical sport. Even the world champion country, which in past had taught others, needs coaches from abroad who come into this category. Reply
