Laurent Tillie has been officially announced as the new head coach of Japan’s men’s volleyball team, aiming to lead the squad toward success at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The Japan Volleyball Association (JVA) confirmed the decision, signaling a continued commitment to the progressive path set by previous coach Laurent Blain. This strategic move mirrors Tillie’s successful trajectory with the French national team, where he elevated the squad to Olympic gold in Tokyo 2020 after succeeding Blain.
In an official statement, Tillie expressed his gratitude and optimism: “I am honored to take on this responsibility and work alongside such talented players and staff. While the challenge is significant, I firmly believe in the team’s potential and values. Together, we can achieve greatness.”
JVA President Shunichi Kawai highlighted Tillie’s proven record: “With his exceptional achievements, including leading France to World League victories in 2015 and 2017 and an Olympic gold, Tillie’s deep understanding of Japanese volleyball culture and his leadership will undoubtedly elevate our national team.
