On Thursday the USA dropped again one set on their way to edge Russia by 3:1 for the second time in the tournament, which means that even if they lose in three sets to Russia, Italy would still make the semis on a better set ratio. Two-time defending champions Russia, on the other hand, may still finish first if they rout Italy in three sets. In the other match of the day, China completed an amazing comeback from two sets down to beat the Dominican Republic at the tie-break and to keep alive their chances to make the top four of the tournament. On Friday Brazil and the Dominican Republic will be playing the last match in Pool H to determine the semi-finalists from this group.
