In late September 2015 the women’s national team of Hungary will be returning to the stage of a Final Round of the CEV Volleyball European Championship for the first time since their last appearance in 1987. Quite curiously back then the competition was hosted by one of the co-organisers of the 2015 edition, i.e. Belgium.

On Wednesday Hungary was drawn in Pool B and will start their European adventure on September 26 in Antwerp, playing the ‘Yellow Tigers’ and then take on Turkey and the winner of a third-round fixture starring  Azerbaijan and Slovakia.

So far, since I started working with the national team of Hungary all of my dreams have been fulfilled,” says head coach Jan De Brandt, who – to add even more flavour to the story – is also from Belgium.

In my dreams I wanted to play Belgium and Turkey, since I know both these teams very well. I do not need to explain why, at least as far as the team from my home country is concerned. On the other hand, I have been working for some time in Turkey and so I can say that I know them quite well too. I am sure that we will be playing both teams in a full house since a lot of people of Turkish descent are living and working in Belgium. Our goal is to finish third in the pool, which would be enough to make the Playoff round.
