Egypt won the African women’s volleyball championship with a straight-sets victory over hosts Kenya, sealing a historic qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Egypt completed an unbeaten tournament by winning the final 25-22, 25-15, 25-15 in Nairobi. Nada Ahmed Houssameldein Meawad led the champions with 14 points, while Mariam Metwally Mohamed Morsy Meeto added 12. Kenya’s Veronica Adhiambo Oluoch scored 11 points, with Elizabeth Marian Sokoiyo contributing 10.
The title was Egypt’s fourth continental crown and their first in 23 years. It also secured the country’s first-ever appearance in the women’s volleyball competition at an Olympic Games.
Kenya finished with the silver medal and joined Egypt in qualifying for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup.
Cameroon completed the podium after beating Rwanda 3-0 in the bronze-medal match, winning 25-17, 25-16, 25-19. Carine Blamdai led Cameroon with 11 points, while Rwanda’s Francoise Yankurije recorded a match-high 15.
Cameroon’s bronze also secured their place at the 2027 World Cup, alongside Egypt and Kenya.
