The competition has three berths for South American teams for the 2013 Mexican World Championship. This Friday, Argentina at 17.00 Argentine time will face Colombia in the closing of the preliminary round.
The three top teams of each pool and the best second ranked team of the nine participating will play semi-finals this Saturday with the Bronze Medal becaming a very important award this Sunday. The two teams playing for the Gold title will already play the final match qualified for the world competition.
The team coached by Julian Alvarez had a very easy start but there are several teams that will fight for a place at next year’s tournament presenting battle during the next days’ matches.
The top scorer of the match was Brian Melgarejo with 7 points followed also by the Argentinian German Johansen with 6.
After the match the Argentine coach expressed: “I always say the first match of any competition must be played. We have had important differences with several teams but we have to show in the field we deserve to win. They played well, concentrated and doing what they learnt and that is very important for the first match. To keep concentration no matter the rival”.
Paraguay was happy because as their coach, Nicolás Sanabriamentioned: “We came looking forward to obtaining 35 points against Argentina and we played pretty well during the first two sets, then we lost concentration. Now we look to the results of Bolivia and Uruguay and we hope to be able to fight the fifth place, because our goal was only the seventh place”.
