Surprisingly (or, maybe not?), SESI-SP overtook top seed from Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei in the Brazilian men’s volleyball league which their rivals held for five consecutive seasons!

Sesi advanced to the playoffs in Superliga Cimed 2018-2019 as the top seed after beating reigning champions Cruzeiro, for the second time this season, in the last round of the regular phase, pushing their rivals to No.2. According to the history of the competition, winning the top seed in the regular season usually means becoming a title holder. Cruzeiro themselves are the best example for this as they were the first-placed side in the regular season in the last five years and conquered Superliga in all five occasions. The last time Sesi finished No.1 in the standings was exactly in the season when they claimed their last championship title, in 2010/2011.

Alan Souza top-scored for Sesi against Cruzeiro with 19 points (5 kill blocks) while Lucas Lóh made 73% positive reception. American Taylor Sander scored 15 points for Cruzeiro. Filipe Ferraz made 77% positive reception.
