Sesc
In the first match after winning the Brazilian Cup, Sesc RJ played C.R. Flamengo at home in Round 15 of the 2019/20 Superliga Feminina regular season, carrying the role of the heavy favorites. However, the team coached by Bernardinho had to sweat to get the victory: 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-18, 15-8). In a difficult game between the 2 sides from Rio de Janeiro, Flamengo were twice ahead of the rivals in sets but succumbed in the tie-break. Tandara Caixeta continued to impress. After becoming a part of the country’s volleyball history in the Cup final, a one-time Olympic champion poured in 26 points against Flamengo, while Juciely Silva made as many as 8 kill blocks. Natália Araújo “Natinha” made 79% reception (19 digs, 32% excellent). Maria Luísa Oliveira “Malú” scored 21 points for the losing side.
Conceding 2 sets gave only 2 points to Sesc, who reached 40. But since Dentil/Praia Clube earned all 3 points by beating Curitiba Vôlei with a 3-0 (8th win in a row), they took over the lead of the Superliga, reaching 41 points. For Flamengo, the point obtained against Sesc didn’t make much of a difference: they are still ranked 11th (penultimate position) and in danger of being relegated.
Another huge winning streak has been extended in this round: the 4th placed Osasco/Audax recorded 6th success in a row by beating Fluminense F.C. in 4 sets.
