The sixth-placed Minas ended Taubaté’s seven-game winning streak in the 2019/20 Superliga Masculina regular season and made rival’s fight for the top spot before the playoffs much more difficult, perhaps even impossible. In a game full of twists and turns, Minas prevailed at home by 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 20-25, 29-27, 15-8). The team from Belo Horizonte made an incredible comeback in the fourth set from 21-24, saving several match points against the champions before taking the tie-break. Minas opposite hitter Davy Silva was the top scorer in the match with 22 points. Leandro Vissotto and Ricardo Lucarelli tallied 18 points apiece for Taubaté who are now five points and three wins behind the leaders Sada Cruzeiro in the charts, having very little chances of finishing the regular season at the top knowing that only three rounds remained before playoffs.
Speaking of Cruzeiro, they swept APAN Blumenau (3-0) to reach the 17th successive win overall, 13th successive win in Superliga, and are now very close to becoming the top seed for the playoffs.
In a direct duel for the third position, Sesc-RJ defeated Sesi-SP by a 3-1 and further isolated themselves in the standings in relation to the rivals. This was the third defeat in a row in the competition for the team from São Paulo.
