The Brazilian Superliga playoffs have reached an exciting stage, with the top eight teams fighting it out for a place in the semifinals. Three of those teams have now secured their spots in the semifinals, including Suzano, Itambé Minas, and Sada Cruzeiro.
Suzano has been the surprise package of the season, having returned to the Brazilian volleyball elite as the Superliga B champion. The team faced a tough quarterfinal matchup against Vedacit Guarulhos, who finished in second place after regular part. However, Suzano admirable performance throughout the season continued as they overcame their opponents in a thrilling best-of-three quarterfinal series. Suzano opposite, Guilherme Sabino, led the charge with 31 points, while outside hitter Daniel Muniz added 20 points to secure a 3-2 victory in the deciding game.
Itambé Minas is another team that secured their spot in the semifinals after a dominant performance in the quarterfinals. Minas defeated Sesi SP in straight sets, with scores of 25-22, 25-23, 25-22, at Arena Uni-BH in Belo Horizonte. The win sealed a 2-0 series victory, with Minas also winning the first match last week. Sesi SP’s opposite, Darlan Souza, was the top scorer of the match with 20 points. For Minas, outside hitter Henrique Honorato was the most efficient with 17 points.
Sada Cruzeiro completed the trio of teams to secure their spot in the semifinals with a win over Apan Eleva Blumenau. The team will now face the winner of the quarterfinal clash between Vôlei Renata and Farma Conde São José in the next round.
