Teams from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela and Uruguay will fight for the top prize and the three berths available for the 2013 FIVB World Championship, which will take place in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
In the past 16 editions, Brazil took home 13 titles, Peru two and Argentina one.
In Pool A, hosts Peru line up with Chile, Colombia and Paraguay, while in pool B, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and Uruguay will face each other.
Brazil have won the title seven times in a row. Argentina were second in 2010 with Peru third.
Argentina participated in the last World Championship in Turkey and Guillermo Cáceres’s team have been training hard for the tournament. They will play two warm-up matches prior to the tournament.
Natalia Malaga will perhaps be under the most pressure as coach of the host team, but she is ready for the test.
“This is always a new challenge,” she noted. “Most of our players have previous tournament experience and know what it is to play in a full Coliseum. We trust them and know that they will give their best.”
