Argentina rolled past Uruguay 25-12, 25-18, 25-15, while Brazil had to fight somewhat harder to overcome Venezuela 25-18, 25-18, 26-24. Chile breezed past Paraguay 25-11, 25-14, 25-11 and Peru had little trouble downing Colombia 25-14, 25-21, 25-8 in Callao.
Brazilian captain Karoline Tormena was the top scorer in the match against Venezuela, notching up 14 points.
Against Peru, Colombia fought hard in the first two sets. They were only a point behind at the first technical timeout of the first set and led 16-14 in the second set. But the Peruvians showed their skill and resilience and pulled away each time, while the Colombians could do little in the third set.
Sol Piccolo was Argentina’s top scorer with 14 points against Uruguay, whose best player was Cecilia Tejeda with seven points. Errors kept the scores close in the second set but Piccolo kept Argentina on top even if the performance wasn’t their best.
In the final match of the day, Chile got an outstanding performance from Catalina Melo who scored 19 points against Paraguay.
The Championship will run until November 27 and the top three teams will qualify for next year’s Youth World Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
