In a balanced derby of Minas Gerais state when it comes to all segments of a play, the defending champions and leaders in the standings Cruzeiro (16-2; 48 points) broke the resistance of the fifth-placed Minas (11-7; 35 points) only after five sets, partially 25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 23-25 and 15-13.
The Cuban Yoandy Leal topped Cruzeiro with 24 points (3 aces, 78% attack – 21/27, 1 error), while his compatriot Robertlandy Simón added 4 kill blocks. Isac Santos made 79% attack (11/14). As for Minas, Henrique Honorato scored 18 points. Robson Devoranen “Bob” made 72% reception (32 digs, 1 error).
With this win, Cruzeiro maintained one point of advantage compared to No.2 Sesc-RJ (16-2; 47 points), who beat last-placed JF Vôlei (2-16; 5 points) in five sets as well. After suffering the second defeat in a row, now only theory leaves Minas in contention for No.4.
By beating the sixth-placed Corinthians-Guarulhos (9-9; 26 points), No.9 Ponta Grossa/Caramuru (4-14; 15 points) returned in the race for the playoffs, in which top 8 teams from the regular season will advance. Leonardo Pinheiro “Leozão” topped Caramuru with 23 points (4 aces, 2 kill blocks). Libero Jorge Bruno made 82% reception (11 digs) while Leonardo Silva made 78% reception (23 digs). Rogério Nogueira “Mineiro” scored 14 points for Corinthians. Sidnei Santos “Sidão” contributed with 4 kill blocks.
