After beating Greece in five sets in the first leg on the road, Romania had a chance to win the 2019 CEV European Silver League in front of own crowd in Alexandria and grabbed it with both hands: 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-21).
Romania, who finished the pool stage unbeaten (6-0; 18 points), will replace the lowest ranked team from this year’s European Golden League, which is Finland, in the 2020 edition of the tournament.
Mihai Gheorghiţă led Romania’s scorers in the second leg with 15 points, while Răzvan Florentin Mihalcea made 6 kill blocks. The outside hitter of Romania, Rareş Ionuţ Bălean, was named MVP of the finals. Nikos Zoupani tallied 20 points for Greece.
By this, Romania completed a clean sweep of the European Silver League after their Women’s national team prevailed over Slovenia in the final.
