EuroVolley W: Pool Phase Nears Completion – Teams Gearing Up for Round of 16

The penultimate day of the initial Pool phase in the competition has wrapped up, revealing the composition for four of the Round 16 pairs. However, teams continue to compete in today’s matches in Ghent and Dusseldorf, ensuring more action for fans.

Slovenia faced a setback in their journey by losing to Ukraine, closing doors for their advancement to the Round 16. On a brighter note for Sweden, they claimed a 3-1 victory over Azerbaijan, propelling them to the third spot in Pool C.

In Pool B, Poland and Ukraine are set for a face-off, competing for the coveted second spot. Belgium, the host, is gearing up to take on Serbia, hoping for an upset. Over in Pool C, though the rankings remain fluid, only Türkiye has sealed their top position. Today will witness Sweden clashing with Czechia and Türkiye battling it out with Germany. Sweden has secured a spot in the round of 16. If they triumph over Czechia today and Türkiye beats Germany, they could rise to 2nd place. Meanwhile, both Czechia and Azerbaijan are vying for a spot in the round of 16, but Azerbaijan’s prospects now depend on the outcomes of other teams’ matches.

Current Standings:

For the much-anticipated Round of 16, matchups in Italy (Florence) kick off on August 26 with Italy vs. Spain and France vs. Romania. In Belgium (Brussels), matches span from August 27-28. The quarter-finals will be played on August 29 and 30 across Florence and Brussels. By September 1, we move into the semi-finals, culminating with the finals in Brussels on September 3.
