CEV Champions League W: Kralovo Pole Brno Triumphs Over CV Gran Canaria in Five-Set Battle

In today’s Women’s Qualifiers Round 1 action in Czechia, the home team Kralovo Pole Brno secured a hard-fought victory against CV Gran Canaria. The intense five-set match ended with scores of 16-25, 25-18, 25-27, 25-23, and 15-9 in favor of the hosts. Katerina Kunikova shone for Brno with 15 points, with Simona Jelinkova close behind at 14 points.

Despite the loss, Gran Canaria’s Heloiz Lacerda Pereira stood out as the match’s top scorer with 16 points, while teammates Sulian Caridad Matienzo Linares and Laura Beatriz Suarez Hernandez both contributed 15 points each.

The qualifiers see a fresh format this year with teams battling in two Round 1 tournaments. The top two from each tournament will advance to Round 2, contending for just two spots in the main pool phase.

The Pool Composition for Round 1 of the CEV Champions League Volley Women includes:

  • Pool 1: OK Gacko (BIH), Asterix Avo Beveren (BEL), Mladost Zagreb (CRO), OK Herceg Novi (MNE).
  • Pool 2: CS Volei Alba Blaj (ROU), CV Gran Canaria (ESP), Kralovo Pole Brno (CZE). Notably, Hapoel Kfar Saba (ISR) withdrew from the competition, leading to automatic 0-3 losses for all its matches.

Tomorrow in the last match of the tournament, Kralovo Pole Brno will face off against CS Volley Alba Blay of Romania in Round 1 action.
